The #1 Secret to New Year’s Resolution Success

Want to be a New Year’s Resolution success? Read on for my top coaching steps on how to be a New Year’s Resolution success and the #1 secret to make your positive resolution results last.

new years resolution success

Did you know only 8% of people that set a resolution actually achieve their goals?  92% of people have good intentions but just abandon them after a few weeks or so.

We can do better than that. I know it.

And 2017 is the year to make what you want HAPPEN.

I want to help you succeed and make your goals a reality! I want to help you be the person you want to be. What do you want for your life in 2017? Here are my top coaching steps on how to be a New Years Resolution success and the #1 secret to make your positive resolution results last.

Steps for New Years Resolution Goal Success:

  • Create a clear vision. Creating a clear vision helps you choose where you want to go in life and motivates you even when the going gets tough. What is the outcome you want from your resolution? What will your life look like if you achieve your goal? That is your vision, the positive end result.
  • Make a powerful visual reminder. Creating vision boards is considered by many to be a vital step on the road to success. Since positive, focused thinking is the key to achieving goals, pinpointing what those goals are and having something tangible to symbolize them is an essential part of the process.Read my guide on how to make a Vision Board for goals that have lasting power. I make one for every new year and swear by it’s magic powers.
  • Pace yourself. There’s no better way to get sick of something than to do it too much, too hard, and too often, to the exclusion of other pursuits and activities. Take your time and don’t hurry things. There’s no need to do several marathons in your first year of running or become fully sugar free in 30 days. Slowly build upon layers of learning, growing, and small wins. With that approach, you’ll be able to accomplish your resolutions without burning out.
  • Get SMART. Goals make resolutions real. Your resolutions need to be SMART to work: Specific, Measurable, Actionable, Realistic, and Time Bound. When helping clients set goals, I always tell them to act like a news reporter. If your goal was on the news, what would be the who, what, when, where, and why? Cover all the bases when defining and describing your goal. For example: Goal: “I want to get strong”Specific goal: “I will complete a strength routine using 10 to 20 exercises, targeting all my major muscle groups, for 20 minutes at least twice a week to build strength and fitness”Goal: “I will be less stressed.”Specific goal: “Every workday at 3:00 p.m. I will take a regular break to get outside, go for a walk, and de-stress.”Goal: “I will eat healthier meals.”

Specific goal: “I will make a grocery list and shop every Saturday morning for at least five days of meals and snacks per week.” Or “I will use for meal plans, grocery lists, recipes, and guides.”

Having specific and measurable goals will lead to success, because the goals are attainable. It’s easier to make progress when you know you are making progress.

  • Avoid quick fixes and extremes. Quick-fix solutions like a “30-Day Diet,” “Fit in 5,” or “10 Days to Calm.”  are typically not sustainable long term and can lead to negative outcomes. When we expect immediate results or it’s too much to handle all at once, we get discouraged, burnt out, and quit. It doesn’t have to be that way, you can accomplish your resolutions without resorting to extremes. Just go about it in the right way. Customize your approach to your resolutions by setting SMART goals tailored to your personality, prefrences and unique lifestyle. Use chapter one of  Balanced Body Breakthrough to help you.
  • Come up with solutions for potential challenges. Think about what has gotten in your way in the past or potential excuses that might prevent you from achieving your goals. Forgetting? No time? Losing interest? Not knowing where to begin? Write down foreseeable challenges and create strategies in advance for dealing with them. That way you won’t get sidelined or lose forward momentum when they arise. Think ahead and be prepared to overcome obstacles on your path to success.
  • Drop the “all or nothing” mindset. This mentality sets you up to feel guilty eventually and is why so many people struggle to succeed. Expecting to stick to a structured plan for an extended period of time without ever deviating is unrealistic. Things happen and life can get in the way – through illness, other obligations, exhaustion, different opportunities, etc – it is impossible for everything to go “perfectly”. Let go of the black and white thinking and make achieveing your goals about progress not perfection.
  • Embrace mistakes. You can’t make positive change if you beat yourself up every time you mess up. Mistakes are part of the process. Whats important is what you choose to respond from slipups. Learn, grow, and pick yourself up. Mistakes are proof that you are trying and as long as you choose to grow better from each one, you’ll make progress. Remember it doesn’t matter if you fall down, it matters if you pick yourself back up.

All of the above will help you be a New Years Resolution success. But what’s the #1 key that will make all your positive accomplishments last?

This is the key.

When it comes to achieveing goals, people are generally accountable only to themselves and often that isn’t enough. Having a strong support network helps ensure that you will remain on track and maintain positive changes in your life. What people, resources, systems, and environments can you draw on to help you realize your resolutions, overcome challenges, and sustain positive change? Communicate your goals to your network and ask them to support you. Choose to surround yourself with people who have a positive impact on your lifestyle and goals. No person is an island, it’s truly challenging to accomplish goals or live a positive life without a community supporting your success.  Find your tribe and make your support network. You do not have to do this alone.

Every month, I host large events to help you connect with other positive people who can support your mental, physical, spiritual health. At these events you’ll meet others who can support you in your resolutions and in making 2017 healthy, happy, and fulfilling. Some of my closest relationships have come because of these meetups. My next event is January 10th 2017, a “ROCK YOUR RESOLUTION” workout to give you what you need to get 2017 started on a high note. Join the party and connect to those who can help you make the New Year better for you. Register here.

What do you think is the #1 key for achieving a New Years Resolution goal? Let me know in the comments below.

When we set out to achieve a New Years Resolution, change a habit, or bring a dream into being, ultimately we are involved in a bigger act of conscious self-creation. Rather than being stuck with the way we are now, we can actually choose the habits of the mind and the qualities of the soul we wish to be. We can consciously choose the behaviors and skills we wish to learn, the life we wish to have, and follow through to a successful conclusion. In this way, creating a new habit brings us to precious spiritual gifts: hope – that our future will be brighter than today through the efforts we make – and faith: that we can bring into being more of what we desire in ourselves and in our lives. What more do we need to weave a life of meaning, purpose, and beauty?

And while you’re out there making decisions instead of excuses, learning new things, and getting closer and closer to your goals, know that there are others out there, like me, who admire your efforts and are striving for greatness too. Each of us has the opportunity to change and grow till our very last breath. Keep going. Keep growing. Keep creating a life you love. I’m cheering for you my friend.

Wishing you a happy and blessed New Year,

I kicked off 2016 by leading Caroline Jordan Fitness wellness workshops for a Wellness Retreat Weekend at Solage Calistoga Resort. It was a beautiful experience full of uplifting workouts, inspiring workshops, relaxing mineral baths, and goal setting for a bright year ahead. Solage Calistoga is a very special place and a gift to anyone who has the pleasure of being a guest. You really have to visit to experience its magic. It has a beauty and serenity to it that is all it’s own. Surrounded by breathtaking mountain ranges and steps from the charming downtown Calistoga in northern Napa Valley, Solage is a luxury resort known for its fine food, geothermal mineral baths, and healthy California lifestyle. Since its debut in 2007, the resort has garnered acclaim and numerous awards from many leading travel, dining, spa and lifestyle publications. They house a Michelin Star restaurant ~ SolBar, Travel and Leisure has named them on the 500 World’s Best List, Conde Nast Traveler has placed them on their Best Spa List, and the accolades go on and on.

I’ve had the opportunity to partner with Solage Calistoga in the past for wellness workshops and events. It has been so much fun to work with them and inspire health and wellbeing through different programs. For this New Years Wellness Weekend I led two Caroline Jordan Fitness workshops. The first, “Start Strong” was an all-levels total body pilates and physical therapy based workout designed to help with strength and body balance. The second was my Caroline Jordan Fitness “Vision Board and Goals” workshop to help participants create the 2016 they want. Ive been leading Vision Board and Goals coaching workshops since 2012 and they have been some of my most well received offerings. I truly believe that when done with the right process, focus, and intention, the Vision Board can be a powerful exercise in creating the life you want and realizing your dreams.

I feel so lucky to have had another opportunity to partner with Solage in hosting workshops in their beautiful space. Our weekend was a time to disconnect from our busy lives, reconnect to our health and wellbeing, and set a positive intention on the year to come. It was a retreat in every sense of the word. Here are a few fun photo memories from my weekend retreat and wellness workshops at Solage:

Missed the retreat but want to experience some of it with us? I took the opportunity during the weekend to film our “Start Strong” pilates therapy flow workout with my little flip camera. Roll out your mat, press play, and join part of our January Solage Wellness Retreat from your living room! This all levels routine moves through classic pilates and physical therapy exercises designed to help you build a strong and balanced body. All you need is a mat and a smile – you can take this workout with you anywhere. Leave me a comment below if you try the video and let me know how your body feels.

Our weekend together was an experience I’ll never forget and kicked off 2016 in a powerful, positive way. And maybe it’s the post Solage Resort bliss talking, but I can FEEL the magic of 2016. It’s going to be a great year and I cant wait to share another uplifting workshop, workout, or experience with you in the days to come.

A brand new year is always exciting! We are filled with anticipation, we resolve to achieve our goals and make our dreams come true. Given that this is a fantastic time to reflect, visualize and plan, here are 100 tips to be the best possible version of you in 2016.

How to be your healthiest, happiest self in 2016

  1. Always remember: as long as you are breathing, you are capable of changing and growing.
  2. Accept responsibility for your own life.
  3. Put yourself first.
  4. Keep your mind open and never stop learning.
  5. Don’t look back, keep moving forward.
  6. Say YES
  7. Learn from other people’s experiences.
  8. Handle problems with calm, detachment, and heart.
  9. Own the mistakes in which you were directly involved.
  10. Reward yourself when a goal is accomplished.
  11. Never say ‘can’t’ or ‘won’t’.
  12. Learn, assimilate, apply.
  13. Eliminate people and things that distract you or deplete your energy.
  14. Read, read, and read some more.
  15. Stay motivated and go for it.
  16. Decide what you want — then do it.
  17. Hang, work, collaborate and network with the best people you can find.
  18. Find your own definition of balance — family, financial, professional, social, spiritual, recreational — and create it in your life.
  19. Keep your personal goals at the forefront of your mind.
  20. Be resourceful, never timid.
  21. Never fear failure or mistakes. They are an essential piece in your growth and success.
  22. Your state of mind is gold, protect it.
  23. Be open to suggestions, feedback, challenges and guidance.
  24. Leave your ego at the door.
  25. Ask for what you want and be prepared to get it.
  26. Stay curious.
  27. Associate with those you respect and admire.
  28. Challenge yourself in new ways and all ways.
  29. Do not under any circumstance fall prey to negativity — whether yours or that of others.

  36. Gratitude, gratitude, gratitude.
  37. Be impeccable in your thoughts, words and deeds.
  38. Extend kindness to all who cross your path.
  39. Never hold a grudge, let it go.
  40. Take control of your mind and emotions, if you don’t, they will control you.
  41. Always make a good first impression; people will remember you for it.
  42. Be the kind of person you want to meet.
  43. Let your actions speak louder than your words and make your life preach louder than your lips.
  44. Leave others better than you found them.
  45. Choose your social circle wisely.
  46. Don’t burn bridges.
  47. Raise your standards.
  48. Have boundaries.
  49. If you tell the truth, it becomes a part of your past.  If you lie, it becomes a part of your future.
  50. Be honest.
  51. Love is all there is – be open to it, cultivate it ,and pay it forward.
  52. Pain is temporary, perspective is everything.
  53. Don’t take anything personally, ever.
  54. What you do every day matters more than what you do every once in a while.
  55. Life isn’t fair, but you can still make it a good one.
  56. Don’t buy things you don’t need.
  57. Stay true to yourself
  58. Don’t compare your life to others. Comparison is the thief of happiness.  You could spend a lifetime worrying about what others have, but it wouldn’t get you anything.
  59. Always choose life.
  60. Believe in magic, miracles, and serendipity.
  61. Envy is a waste of time.
  62. Be happy.  Be yourself.  If others don’t like it, then let them be.  Happiness is a choice.  Life isn’t about pleasing everybody.
  63. If you don’t like something, change it.  If you can’t change it, change the way you think about it.
  64. Be different. Be unique. Be memorable.
  65. Trust your gut, always.
  66. Words are cheap, actions priceless.
  67. You are not your possessions or your looks.
  68. Work to create a life that feels right to YOU, not one that looks right to everyone else.
  69. In five years, it won’t matter.
  70. Life is not complex – your thinking makes it so.
  71. Avoid drama and don’t create any.
  72. Don’t pursue success, but positive impact.
  73. Learn to love yourself first, instead of loving the idea of other people loving you.
  74. Walk with those who want more and are doing more. Surround yourself with those who are on the same mission as you.
  75. Spend time with those who are near and dear to you.
  76. There’s no such thing as a quick fix.
  77. Never compromise your self-worth for anyone or anything.
  78. Don’t think of cost.  Think of value.
  79. The opinion you hold of yourself is all that matters.
  80. Stop being so hard on yourself.
  81. It takes more energy to resist than to accept something. You can not change what you refuse to confront.
  82. The most reliable way to predict the future is to create it.  Participate in life instead of just watching it pass you by.
  83. Learn to relax more.
  84. Accept that you cannot control everything.
  85. Get rid of your wish-bone and get a backbone.
  86. Don’t be a short-term thinker.
  87. Keep it real.
  88. Treat yourself well.
  89. Inhale, exhale, embrace, enjoy.
  90. Do it. Do it now.
  91. Replace the phrase “I have to” with “I get to” whenever you catch yourself starting to complain.  So many activities we complain about are things others wish they had the chance to do.
  92. Respect yourself enough to walk away from anything that no longer serves you, grows you, or makes you happy.
  93. Take constructive criticism seriously, but not personally.  Listen, and then operate with your own intuition and wisdom as your guide.
  94. Always remember: you are stronger than you think and braver than you believe.
  95. Smile, it is the best accessory.
  96. Take time to realign yourself with what you value most in life.  What is important in your life is what you decide is important.
  97. Have patience and keep a good attitude while working hard for what you believe in.
  98. Be assertive, never aggressive.
  99. Don’t take things for granted.

100. Happiness is a choice. Choose happy.

Happy New Year! The start of a new year is one of my favorite times. Chaos, then rest. Celebration, then strategy. Goodbye, HELLO. I rock my introvertedness, I make vision boards, I spend just a bit of time reviewing what DIDN’T work the past year (not too much, because let’s get on with things), I analyze what I want (because I WILL manifest what I lock on to, so best be sure what I desire is truly good for me), and then I take ACTION. Its my time to reflect, goal set, and create a powerful and positive intention for the year ahead.

On January 8th, 2016 Ive been invited to kick off the Solage Calistoga Resort’s Wellness Week. I’m so excited to return to Solage and begin my new year in a balanced, blissful place. I’ll be leading an uplifting all levels pilates core fusion workout followed by my Caroline Jordan Fitness Vision Board and Goals workshop. Here is my schedule for January 8th at Solage Calistoga:

5:15pm – 6pm Start Strong Core Conditioning

6:15-7:30pm Vision Board Creation

The entire schedule for the week of wellness events can be viewed here:

Whether you can join me in Calistoga or not, Id like to invite you to take a moment to take a deep breath, and pull out your map. Are you driving your life in the direction you want? Deep down inside what is truly important to you? What do you value and do you make time for it on a daily basis? My goal is to be a source of inspiration, information, encouragement, and support to enable you to take action and live a life you love. Start now: set small, realistic goals to make those things that truly matter to you a part of your world. Whether you are trying to beat stress, have specific fitness feats you want to accomplish, or just want to take better care of yourself, I’m here to help you keep your body, mind, and spirit in great shape so you can love your life.

Remember: success is not the key to happiness, happiness is the key to success. I believe in you and believe you have the power to choose to love yourself and love your life. And if ever you forget your own greatness, I want to be the voice thats there to remind you of your strength. Stay committed, positive, present, and persistent. You deserve to feel good and to live a life you love.

Keep going, keep growing, and get ready for a beautiful 2016

New Years Wellness Spa Retreat Weekend. January 3rd and 4th at SOLAGE Resort Calistoga, CA.

14-068-SOL Spa Eblast-LOW RES

New Years. A time to reflect, goal set, and create a powerful and positive intention for the year ahead. A time to evaluate how you are living your life, how you WANT to be living your life, and to move forward with purpose. Setting powerful, detailed, and motivating goals inline with your life values is truly the way to create a year you love. But this takes time, energy, and effort; which can be challenging to create space for in your busy, successful life.

Thats why sometimes you need to get away. To distance yourself so that you can see clearly. To unplug from the world and plug into YOU. You know its true: the only way to have the time is to make it and the only way to create your life is by getting intentional on how you live it.

So where can you go to have distraction free space to give yourself time to renew and refresh your body and mind? You dont have to travel around the world, sometimes a weekend is all you need to restore your health and feel re-inspired. This year I have partnered with Solage Resort in Calistoga to host a New Years Wellness weekend just for you. An investment in your health and wellbeing is just the gift to give yourself this holiday season.  A little retreat may be the perfect experience to reboot your health and excite your spirit for the new year ahead. Heres what I have planned for you:

New Years Wellness Spa Weekend Retreat

Solage, Calistoga. January 3-4

You are invited to spend an uplifting weekend at Solage resort, to create conscious intentions for 2015 and jumpstart your new year in health. The weekend experience will allow you to reboot your body, renew your energy, and reawaken your spirit.

Our weekend will include daily fitness classes and motivational workshops in Calistoga’s rustic and restorative setting. There will be ample time for rest, reflection, and pampering yourself in Solage’s legendary bathhouse facilities.

Join Caroline Jordan Fitness for a New Years Wellness Spa Retreat January 3-4 at Solage Calistoga. Space is limited, for reservations, please contact Solage Calistoga at 855-706-4341

I believe a success is not something you have; it’s something you DO.  It’s something you experience when you wake up and act accordingly.  So let your first weekend of 2015 set the theme of proactivity and success that is certain to echo through your entire year. Let 2015 be the year you move forward with vision, motivation, and health. Let 2015 be the year you are good to yourself.

Hope to see you January 3rd and 4th at Spa Solage! Please feel free to email me at : with any questions. Know someone who might like to come along? Share this post on Facebooktwitter, or email. 2015 is going to be a great year…. a change is in the air.

Happy 2014, #yearofpassion !

I am so excited for 2014. A New Year is one of my favorite things to celebrate. Its the perfect time to reflect, goal set, and create a powerful and positive intention for the year ahead.

2014 for me is all about living with passion and making time for the things that light up my life with energy, enthusiasm, purpose, and joy. Of course I have made a vision board full of goals and positive intentions for the new year. With a clear vision I am ready to take on 2014 with passion.

Zoom into what you truly love to do and make time to actually do it. And live with some gusto. Isnt that what life is about after all? With this new theme of passion I am amazed by the energy I am finding simply by focusing on the things I love. I believe what you focus on expands. Focus on your problems and you’ll get more problems. Focus on your passions and you’ll find positive outcomes.

If you are going to work on New years resolutions, why not make them pursuits that lift your spirits? After all, “Work” is the transfer of energy. I like to transfer my energy into something creative and inspiring. I believe that powerful visions inspire positive actions that can create positive outcomes (and change the world at the same time).  You have to follow your heart or it will forever remind you that something is missing. The world is your playground, not your prison. You are responsible for the talents that have been entrusted to you. What you do every day is more important than what you do every once in a while. Work on what you love and share it with the world. When you do what you love every day and you get up excited for what you do, it is good for everyone around you. Have a vision to strive for.  Dream, create, inspire. What you make is important, serve others with purpose and focus. Do it with all your heart.

“Be in love with your life. Every minute of it.” 2014 is the #yearofpassion , won’t you join me in living with your whole heart??

Other Things To Read to Inspire Your New Year:

Spreading My Wings. Getting Over My Fears and FLYING.

My career in the fitness industry began when I was 14 years old. My dream was to become a fitness superstar and by 26 I had a career that was blessed and full. But then things started to shift. Working exclusively in fitness didn’t seem to fit. I started to change and my business followed in my footsteps.

At the start of 2012, I made a Vision Board to set a clear intention for the changes I wanted in my life. The inspiring images served as a daily reminder to work diligently towards a life congruent with my desires. At the time, I was involved in a professional Master Mind group that challenged me to think outside the box. The mentors involved opened my mind and provided the extra push I needed to pursue my career dreams. I took a leap of faith and enrolled in Wellcoaches Health Coach Course, investing in education and expanding my horizons. Have you ever found yourself involved in something only to realize that its what you’ve been looking for the WHOLE time? Well that’s what happened when I started studying, I immediately felt the “where have you been all my life?!” sensation. Months of mastering positive psychology, behavior change, coaching, and wellness filled my life with a new sense of passion and purpose. People warned me that I was wasting my time, saying that a coaching certification was not a path to a sustainable or successful career venture. All I can say is that I am glad I listened to my intuition, to the voice telling me, “This Caroline is who you are. Keep Going.”

And then all the hard work, faith, and trust paid off. My career took a turn from fitness focused to health and happiness lifestyle management. I completed my Health and Wellness Life coaching course. I began coaching, speaking, and presenting on wellbeing topics to others. I started collaborating with corporations as a creative consultant facilitating wellness programs. My business expanded. I discovered strengths, passions and a voice I never knew I had. It was quite the transformation and the journey continues to develop in a positive direction. I know there will be more surprises to come, because I believe that once you set a clear intention and trust yourself enough to make it happen, ANYTHING is possible.

To reflect these changes, I gave my business and brand a makeover. I am proud to announce my new website: has been launched. I now feel that my online brand accurately reflects the work I do and the path I plan to pursue. I notice a big difference, but the real question is, do you? Visit the site and give me your feedback, I can’t wait to hear what you think of it!

My favorite part of this whole process is the “Caroline Jordan Fitness” logo, which is the “blue bird of happiness”. This symbol means a lot to me personally and professionally. Years ago I earned the nickname “bird” for constantly “chirping” positive affirmations to my friends. And the North Carolina Tarheel blue has always been a favorite color of mine. Throughout history, birds have been celebrated as symbols of freedom, inspiration, strength, and unity. The bluebird specifically has long been said to represent confidence, happiness, plaintive song, and movement to a new level of being. Because of this meaning, I feel the blue bird of happiness serves as the perfect symbol to represent my brand. I could go into deep detail over “flying free from fear” and why I feel genuinely connected to this logo, but I will save that for another blog post 😉 You might notice the “blue bird” theme integrated throughout the website, I had a fun time with it. At the end of the day, I believe that I was given positive energy in order to use it to serve others through my work in the world. Through this strength, I am committed to helping others cultivate positive thoughts, conquer fears, lead unstoppable lives, and live in health from the inside out.

If what you are doing right now isn’t what you want to be doing, remember you have the power at anytime to change directions. After all of this, I only have one word: Gratitude.

On the RADIO!

One of my goals for 2013 was to connect with and inspire others through more public speaking, events, and radio. And since vision boards DO come true, one of my goals has too. This month I was a featured guest on “Eat. Love. Live. Thrive” a web radio talk show with Registered Dietitian and Health Expert Corinne Dobbas. In our 30 minute talk show we had an honest conversation on how to stay healthy and happy in a stressed out society. According to the American Psychological Association (APA), 22% of Americans feel extremely stressed–so can you imagine how many feel slightly stressed? Through my work in wellness coaching, I have found that this stress has profound effects on the way we take care of ourselves, or should I say–how we don’t care of ourselves. It’s an overwhelming cause for people to feel negative, get frustrated, and to stop putting effort into their physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. We become unbalanced; and when we’re unbalanced, it’s hard to get back to a place of health and happiness.

Come on with us and listen in on our straight-up conversation on dealing with stress, how to see the positive (even when you feel super negative), how to make sure your goals are on target for where you are, tips on dealing with comparing yourself to others, and the basics on how to stay healthy and happy where you are right now, at this moment in time–regardless of everyone else around you. Click here to download and listen to the show:

Leave me a comment when you listen to the show and tell me your biggest takeaway from my conversation with Corrine. I look forward to hearing your thoughts and to sharing future radio talks!

Theres one thing I know for sure, I wouldn’t be anywhere without all of YOU. Thanks for your continued support as I work towards accomplishing all of my personal and professional goals. Sky is the LIMIT and I plan on flying high with YOU!

With love and gratitude,
