Happy Holidays from my Happy Heart.

Family Holiday Card 2015

Family Holiday Card 2015

Dear Friends,

As 2015 comes to a close, I want to thank you for being a part of my world and this incredibly colorful journey called life. From the fitness classes to special charity events, inspiring retreats and corporate wellness workshops, we’ve shared many healthy and happy memories together. This blog has been running for over 8 years and connects with readers in 182 countries around the world. The YouTube channel has grown into a community of over 10,000 subscribers and on the facebook page we share thoughts of the day and motivating photos. WOW. Thats a lot of you! Together we can be the change in creating an environment that supports a healthier, happier world inside and out. Our community both online and off continues to amaze and inspire me. It’s reading stories like Megan’s about using the Youtube channel to overcome an eating disorder and live healthy. It’s receiving emails with positive progress updates from students in fitness classes. It’s seeing yelp reviews of what you have accomplished and how you feel from our time together. It’s presenting a corporate wellness workshop and having participants come up with a big “thank you” after it.  YOU are the reason I love my job and find purpose in my work. You are the reason I wake up excited to create, consult, collaborate, and coach. You are my motivation, my inspiration, and my heart. Thank you  for being a part of the #trainpositive community both online and off.

Let me ask you: Where are you on your healthy life journey? How can I help you along the way? Tell me what you need support on in the comments below (fitness, stress, balance, lifestyle, etc). I hope to learn more about you and how I can better serve you. It brings me great joy to see you thrive.

And on one last note, in 2015 I wrote my first book, “Balanced Body Breakthrough” and launched a 90 day kickstarter campaign to get it published through InkShares. InkShares is reader based crowd funding that works off book pre-orders. *** In October 2015, InkShares changed their pre-order requirement to 250 pre-orders for all books. That means, if readers believe in your book and 250 pre-order copies are sold, the book gets published through InkShares. They handle editing, design, marketing, and publishing of the book from start to finish. I am really proud of this project and believe in it’s content.

I am currently at 198 pre-order copies sold, SO close to the 250 book order goal for publishing with 46 days left in the campaign. Im reaching out to see if you and your community might be open to support me in this dream. The kickstarter campaign page is here:

You can read excerpts from the book here:

I truly believe in this project and am positive it will inspire both individual and community wellness. I know this book will help me share my message of feel good fitness and grow our community of positive people who work to live in health and happiness. Thank you to those of you who have already pre-ordered a copy and for those of you who are considering, trust me the book is worth it! Backing this project helps me AND helps you in wellness. I have 42 days left. I know we can do this.

I filmed a little holiday video below to thank you for another great year and to wish you happiness. I hope you enjoy it. May you know how incredibly grateful I am for your support and to have you as part of my positive community online and off.

With love and gratitude,

If you liked this post, please SHARE it with your friends on Facebooktwitter, or email. Lets support each other in living a healthy, happy life.

It’s the holidays and you are busier than Santa on Christmas eve. So many parties, presents to prep, dishes to cook, and cards to write! Not to mention the work year is ending so you are pulling extra hours and up all night on emails. Your skin is a mess, you have a headache that won’t give up, and you’ve been living off caffeine and candy canes. You just have to make it to New Years. Then it will all slow down.

I’ve got news for you: it doesn’t slow down. But YOU will if you keep at it like this. Sometimes you have to go slow in order to go fast. By recharging your batteries and taking mini breaks for health you find the strength to juggle your important life priorities and to-do list without losing your balance. Exercise can be a mini break for you. A chance to reboot, reconnect to yourself, get grounded, find energy and stamina. Most people think the last thing they have time to do during the holidays is exercise. But in fact the opposite is true. By choosing to make time for exercise you open up more time for everything else and are able to maintain a balanced, peaceful version of yourself.

Do you ever notice that when you make time for exercise, you somehow find more time for everything else? How does that work, are Santa’s elves working some magic? Nope. When you make time for exercise you boost your metabolism and increase your energy, providing you with the stamina and strength to tackle your to-do list with ease. Bonus, when you move your body you also move your mind, increasing your focus and ability to get more done in less time. So like magic you have it: more time in your day for what you want and need.

When it comes to making exercise a mini break, remember: you don’t need a lot of time; especially during the holidays when your goal is to maintain energy, fitness, and peace of mind. Little bursts of movement are actually better in helping you manage your health without added stress. Find 10 minutes in the morning before the day begins and jump start your metabolism with a yoga flow routine. Or ease into your evening with 15 minutes of basic bodyweight strength moves when you get home. Just do a little bit and if a little bit leads to more, great! If it’s only 5 minutes, remember 5 is a better break than 0. Let yourself off the hook and drop the guilt over not making it to the gym or “putting in an hour of time”. Do what you can. Give yourself the gift of using fitness to give your brain and body a reset. Use exercise as a tool to FEEL your best throughout the holidays and manage your crazy, busy life.

“Ok Caroline, all of this sounds great…. but what are the workouts I should do when I only have a few minutes to myself?” Great question! Ive put together a few of my YouTube workout video suggestions below to get you started. You’ll find more short, effective, energizing, and stress busting workout videos by subscribing to my YouTube Channel here. Mentally, physically, and emotionally your holidays will be more joyful when you are healthy. Taking the time to energize yourself with exercise and ground yourself with rest is the recipe that allows you to experience the season with less stress. I want you to look at your fitness not as something you should do to look good, but instead something you can do to FEEL good. Your energy and health is an essential ingredient to your success.

Your health is the greatest gift, and taking care of it allows you to live your life to the max. Give a gift to yourself, your family, and your work by opening up to a happier, healthier, more effective self. Take time to take care of you and enjoy the life you have been given. Make the choice to feel good about yourself, about your world, about your possibilities and the step you’re taking right now. Do so and you’ll be smiling all the way into the New Year.

How to Have A Healthy Relationship to Holiday Fitness

Festive, Fun, Feel-Good Holiday Fitness

Many people talk about “burning off” holiday calories or exercising to earn their holiday treats. Well let me tell you: this mindset sets you up for a negative relationship to fitness and a lifetime of fighting for a healthy weight. Anytime the motivation to move or eat well comes from a place of guilt, shame, or fear, the outcome never leaves you feeling better long term. And who wants to live through the holidays feeling scared to gain weight? Shouldn’t it be a time of joy and celebration? Yes. And it all starts with shifting your mindset.

Christmas Morning Run. How I like to celebrate after seeing Santa 😉

It makes me sad to hear people equate sugar cookies consumed with number of burpees performed. Or over-exercise just to over-eat and make themselves sick. Eating well and exercise during the holiday season is about SO MUCH MORE than avoiding weight gain. It’s about :

– Having energy, stamina, and strength. From holiday parties to shopping, long days of cooking or socializing, you’ll have more power to do it all with quality fuel and exercise induced endorphin power.

– Having a healthy way to bond with friends and family. One of my favorite ways to build positive relationships is through exercise and eating well. Preparing nourishing meals and making time to exercise with each other, supports both your relationship AND your health goals. Its all about how you choose to spend time with your loved ones. Together you can create an environment of support that embraces exercise and eating well in a positive light. If you want them to, your relationships CAN support you in your health.

Family Bonding over Making Strawberry Santa Hat Treats for the holidays

– Managing the physical stress of traveling or unusual schedules. Nothing says back pain like a full schedule, the car, or airplane. A little bit of exercise goes a long way and helps you not feel so bent out of shape from long days. Healthy meals and snacks keep your digestion and mood on track despite unusual hours. Exercise and eating right helps you travel smart, manage long hours, and get around feeling your best.

– Feeling confident at family/friend gatherings. You know that feeling you get after a workout? Or that satisfied sensation you experience after eating a nourishing meal? A million bucks, top of the world, happier than ever, ready to conquer? Yea I thought so. Me too. It’s that undeniable, unstoppable power that health gives you. It puts extra strength in every step and the confidence that gives all your holiday plans a little boost.

– Finding calm, stress relief, and a better mental state. The holidays can be emotional, demanding, and challenging for many people. From dysfunctional family gatherings to running into ex-boyfriends or old memories, it’s a time of year that can bring up a lot of feelings. But when you take time for yourself and connect to the silence within you, that’s when you can make sense of any chaos going on around you. Exercise can be that space for you. It can give you time to clear your mind, feel your feelings, sort through your emotions, and find a better state of being. Simply by taking time out to take care of yourself will allow you to be your best and deal with any stress with a positive outlet.

– Being more present and in the moment. Taking care of your health allows you to be conscious of how your body feels, what you put in your body, and what you put in your mind. Fitness is a practice of listening to your body and mindfully nourishing yourself with healthy foods and movement. Research has shown that being more present with how you care for your body can relieve stress, while also improving energy levels, memory and attention. Which in itself allows you to truly be present throughout the holiday season.

I’m not saying NOT to indulge in your favorite holiday treats or take some well-deserved time off to hang in your christmas pjs over the holidays. Please DO! I believe in balance, listening to your body, and living life to the fullest. I just want to invite you to shift the way you look at exercise and eating over the holidays. Motivate from a place of gratefulness, health, and feeling your best. You deserve a life full of energy and strength to celebrate all the blessings in your life. Through moderation and choosing to look at health as a gift, I believe that you’ll drop the holiday “fight to fitness” and find yourself feeling your best.

What gifts does exercise and eating well give YOU during the holiday season? Leave me one way you power up your holidays as a comment below.  Lets choose to be grateful, grounded, and happier through making exercise and eating well a positive, uplifting part of our lifestyle.
