Lower Your Blood Pressure Naturally: A Gentle 10-Minute Chair Yoga Routine
Have you been looking for a way to support your heart health without the stress of a high-impact workout? If you’re managing high blood pressure, you know that finding the right balance of activity can feel tricky. You want to stay active, but you also need to keep your body in a state of calm.
That is where Chair Yoga comes in.
As a health coach, I often tell my clients that movement is medicine. But for that medicine to work, it has to be accessible. Today, I’m sharing a gentle, 10-minute seated routine designed specifically to help soothe your nervous system and support healthy circulation—all from the comfort of your favorite chair.
Why Chair Yoga for Heart Health?
When we think of lowering blood pressure, we often think of intense cardio. While heart-pumping exercise is great, calming the nervous system is just as vital.
When you engage in slow, intentional movements paired with deep breathing, you signal to your body to move out of “fight or flight” mode and into “rest and digest.” This physiological shift can help:
- Slow your heart rate.
- Improve circulation.
- Reduce the stress hormones that can contribute to hypertension.
The 10-Minute Routine (Watch the Video Below!)
In this routine, we focus on opening the chest, releasing tension in the neck and shoulders, and even “waking up” the calf muscles—often referred to as your “second heart” because of how they help pump blood back up to the chest!
3 Quick Tips for Your Practice:
- Focus on the Exhale: Try to make your exhales slightly longer than your inhales. This is the fastest way to signal your heart to relax.
- Stay Tall: Keep your spine long to give your lungs and heart the space they need to function optimally.
- Consistency is Key: Just 10 minutes a day can create a cumulative effect on your wellness.
