As a certified health and fitness coach, Ive had a lot of experience working with clients with both Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes. Physical activity is an important component when it comes to treating diabetes. One of my favorite clients, Michael, came to work with me at age 70. He was 60 pounds overweight and struggling with Diabetes. His main motivation to improve his health was his grandson, he wanted to be able to be active and play with him! Michael first started meeting with me 2 times per week for 30 minute virtual workout sessions. When we started, we had to get creative – the swelling and neuropothay in Michael’s feet was so bad he was unable to wear regular athletic shoes. His weight also made exercise more difficult and frustrating. We began with chair workouts and then progressed to standing and floor work routines. Even though fitness was tough, Michael stuck with it. He never missed a workout! After a year of meeting with me 2 times a week for virtual sessions in addition to a daily movement program and healthy diet, Michael lost over 40 pounds! He looks 10 years younger and his energy for life has improved significantly. He is also now wearing normal shoes! His body is in a healthy place and now that hes lost the weight he continues to be consistent with his exercise regimen. His son and grandson are so happy to have a Grandfather that is up for adventures!

Michael’s consistency and determination to improve his health and reduce his diabetes allowed him to gain more precious memories with his family. At age 72, Michael continues to meet with me twice weekly. His story shows that when you have a strong “WHY” (motivator) and you stick with your goals even when they get hard, you can change your life.
