“How do you stay so positive?”
This is a question I get often from my Virtual Wellness Coaching Clients and Online Program Members.
Truth is? Im NOT always positive. I have my down days, drama queen moments, and melt downs. We all do, it’s HUMAN. Being positive is not about NOT having down moments. Being positive is about deciding not to let those down moments control your life. You have a choice.
But sometimes it IS hard. You are dealing with tough challenges, disappointments, obstacles, or people. There are days it feels like you are just trudging through, waiting for a break. You might think, “COME ON life! Why do you gotta keep making things this tough? Cant I get a win just once?” When it rains it pours, and Im no stranger to those times that feel too tough to bear.
In those moments where you just want to give up, it helps to have a tool box of different things that pick you back up.
With my wellness clients, I call this the “bad day survival kit”
In the “bad day survival kit” you put the people, places, and things that help you shift your mood to a more positive place. This can be working in your garden, calling a good friend, taking a dance class, watching funny Youtube videos – honestly whatever makes YOU smile. I have my clients write a list of all the things in their “bad day survival kit”, fill it with as many ideas as they can, and keep adding to it as they learn more helpful ways to turn down moments around.
You can do too! Write up a “bad day survival kit” so on bad days you have a list of different tools that work to cheer yourself up. Select from the list and see if it works. If not, try another choice.
In my “bad day survival kit” I always include music. For me, the simple act of putting on positive songs on always seems to help. I look for positive songs that have uplifting lyrics or funny words. I like to sing along and add a dance move or too (because the physical movement of dancing helps my mood too).
